Schmuck is an edgy and outrageously funny eight-part series based on a true story, set in Melbourne, Australia. It follows the wild journey of Avi Gold, a young Jewish man breaking free from his strict religious upbringing to dive headfirst into a world of forbidden pleasures. Spanning two timelines, we see 13-year-old Avi in the mid-90s, beginning to question everything he’s been taught, and 21-year-old Avi in 2005, gleefully rebelling—sampling banned foods, experimenting with drugs, exploring other cultures, chasing love, and unapologetically pursuing his dream of filmmaking, a big no-no in his former life.
At its core, Schmuck delivers big laughs while tackling big questions about faith, freedom, and self-identity. Avi’s awkward missteps and hilariously poor decisions bring plenty of comedy, but the story doesn’t shy away from its raw, edgy moments. As Avi steps out of his sheltered bubble, he’s thrown into a world that’s diverse, messy, and full of surprises, forcing him to rethink everything he once believed. With sharp humor and bold storytelling, Schmuck captures the chaos of leaving behind what you know to chase what you truly want—and the hilarious, painful, and ultimately uplifting process of finding yourself along the way.
